Romantic Grass of the Week: Echinopogon caespitosus (Tufted Hedgehog Grass) Perennial small tussock up to 1m high. Slender scabrous stems not bent at nodes. Leaves few, short, flat 2-5mm wide mostly basal. Inflorescence ovoid to oblong panickle. spikelets erect, rarely nodding, with 1 floret, 1-10cm long by 1-5cm wide. Lemma and awn hairs almost as as long as spikelet 2 -15mm long. grows in open forest, woodland, common on East Coast of Australia. A genus endemic to Australian region.
