Romantic Grass of the Week: Feeling flat? A weeping sedge for the heatwave. Black Bog-rush or Schoenus malanostachys has erect or weeping stems 30-120cm long. A native used by florists for its bright green and bendyness. Leaf sheaths dark brown to blackish, tubular, with reflexed point 5-8mm long, wooly at the top. Panicle 8-15cm long, with spikelets on slender stalks loosely clustered at nodes, wooly or ciliate margines on glumes. Found in damp shady, cool gullies In coast and Tablelands Qld, Vic, NSW.
