romantic grass of the week: Ficinia nodosa prev. Isolepis nodosa (Knobby club rush) - a common council planting sedge. small tufted annual with 3-angular or terete stems 40-90cm leaves reduced to sheaths at base of stem (this means every stem has a flower) inflorescence terminal in globular cluster of numerous sessile brown spikelets 5mm long. bract 2-4cm long. Perianth bristles absent, fruit shiny and brown/black, smooth flattened or 3-angular.
