Culms erect, stature slender to delicate, 10–70(–120) cm tall, 2–3(–4) -noded. Mid-culm nodes glabrous. Lateral branches simple. Leaves mostly basal. Leaf-sheaths glabrous on surface. Sheath becoming loose with age inflorescence - purple when immature, straw coloured when mature. paniculate, compact, oblong, 6–30 cm long, 1.5–3 cm wide, soft; central nerve extending to become awn, straight, 5–7 mm long; lateral awns arising from the margins, straight 6–7 mm long (see drawing); found in Western Qld, NT, WA and Western NSW
